Chilnaulna has three major cascades and is a great alternative to some of the busier hikes located in Yosemite Valley.
The trail leads from the bottom of the parking area and along cascading Chilnualna Creek for a half mile (0.8 km). A series of switchbacks then lead away from the creek into the open forest, where you’ll get views of the Wawona area.
Start by finding the Wawona Hotel and General Store in southern Yosemite. They’re five miles (8 km) north of the south entrance and 21 miles (34 km) south of Yosemite Valley on Highway 41.
Find the trail head in Wawona, at the southern entrance to the park. Drive north across the bridge crossing the South Fork of the Merced River and then turn right on Chilnualna Falls Road. It is the first right after the bridge, drive just over 1.5 miles (2.5 km) to the trailhead parking lot, which will be on your right.
