Overview
The Yosemite Cemetery holds a wealth of stories—some well-known, others lost to time. Tucked away on the west side of Yosemite Village, this peaceful place is the final resting spot for many of the park’s earliest residents. Among them are prominent figures from Yosemite’s history, lifelong locals now nearly forgotten, and visitors whose lives were a mystery even when they passed. Buried here are people who died while exploring, early settlers and pioneers, elderly residents and infants, innkeepers and laborers—each with a unique story. These stories intertwine like strands of a rope stretching across generations. Some are brief and stand alone, while others—like those of the American Indians buried here—remain so deeply hidden that we may never uncover them.
Make sure to pick up a guide from the Yosemite Valley Exploration Center to help guide you through the cemetery.
