Yosemite Valley Lodge

Overview

Yosemite Valley Lodge

Yosemite Valley Lodge (also recently known as Yosemite Lodge at the Falls) is a favorite choice for families and large groups. The lodge is located directly across from Yosemite Falls and offers recently remodeled traditional rooms. Plus, a small number of popular Family Rooms and Bunk Rooms give families a little extra space. Yosemite Valley Lodge is a hub for activities and a convenient center for dining, shopping, and other services. Its glass and wood architecture work in unity with the surroundings and the ample windows allow in the bright mountain sunshine while providing remarkable views.

Just zoom out on the Yosemite Valley Lodge map, to quickly see how close you are to many of Yosemite’s most popular hiking trails and famous landmarks. This location is truly in the heart of Yosemite Valley.

Because this is such a popular destination, it’s wise to try to make your reservations well in advance if possible – especially during the summer or holidays. Rooms become available a year and 2 days ahead of time. For example, on March 13, you can book a stay for March 15 in the next year.

Yosemite Valley Lodge Puts You Close to Activities in Yosemite Valley

Spending the night at Yosemite Valley Lodge makes it easy to explore the wonders of Yosemite Valley without ever having to get in your car. Catch incredible views of Yosemite Falls on the way to get a Starbucks coffee while the day is still quiet or admire the sunset reflecting off Yosemite’s white granite on the way back from dinner at the Mountain Room.

While only a few rooms have a view of Yosemite Falls from their windows, you only need to step outside to peek past the nearby pines and view this Yosemite icon. It’s a short, 5-10 minute stroll to the base of Yosemite Falls, and a similar distance to views of Half Dome, Sentinel Rock, and more. The Merced River flows right behind this Yosemite lodge offering opportunities for a relaxing stroll or a refreshing dip. Guests also enjoy swimming in the outdoor swimming pool at Yosemite Valley Lodge.

For those who want to venture further afield, a bike rental stand on the property makes exploring other Yosemite Valley destinations a breeze. Designated bike trails keep you out of Yosemite Valley traffic, and make it easy to stop at any time to admire the views or snap an unobstructed photo.

Tours of the park also leave directly from Yosemite Valley Lodge. In the summer, guests ride open-air trams for the 2-hour Valley Floor Tour. National Park Service rangers lead the tour, and it’s easy to look up and admire the soaring cliffs above when there is no roof in the way. In the winter, the open-air trams are traded for a warm bus. A Glacier Point Tour adds in a trip to Glacier Point where you can look back down into Yosemite Valley from the rim, and an all-day Grand Tour introduces you to Glacier Point and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias as well as the Yosemite Valley sights and stories.

In the evenings, the outdoor theater at Yosemite Valley Lodge also hosts National Park Service ranger presentations, just a short and easy walk from your room. The talks cover a wide variety of different topics related to Yosemite, so you can learn everything you need to know about bears, the history of the park, and more.
