SUMMARY:Yosemite Conservancy - Yosemite Field School: Mountain Yellow Legged Frogs and High Sierra Survivors
DESCRIPTION:  \nSaturday\, July 18\, and Sunday\, July 19; 8:30 am–4 pm\, each day. \n\n\nLiving in the High Sierra requires incredible survival skills — and the region’s wildlife has some fascinating strategies!. Join us for a weekend of discovery as we explore alpine and subalpine ecosystems\, learning how animals like marmots\, pikas\, ground squirrels\, and mountain birds endure high elevation conditions. \nOn day one\, hike around the Gaylor Lake area to observe these high elevation habitats as some species will make themselves visible\, while others reveal their presence through tracks and signs. Gather that evening\, with Dr. Roland Knapp\, research biologist\, who will share insights and stories from his work recovering the Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog. The next day\, we’ll join Dr. Knapp in the field to search for frogs\, toads\, and tadpoles while learning about the fragile aquatic habitats they call home. \nHiking at high elevation with uphill sections and up to 8–9 miles on day two\, this experience offers a rewarding physical challenge while maintaining a steady pace with plenty of opportunities to observe and learn. \nThis immersive program will leave you with a deeper understanding of the High Sierra’s remarkable wildlife — and a lasting appreciation for the resilience of its species.

DESCRIPTION:The evening astronomy program takes place on Thursday\, July 23\, from 9–10 pm. Friday\, July 24\, includes a guided family naturalist hike from 10 am–2 pm and a campfire program from 8 pm–9 pm. \nOn this family-oriented program — open to participants of all ages — you and your loved ones will explore\, learn\, and connect in a beautiful natural space! \nKick off the weekend with an in-depth stargazing program on Friday night. Your naturalist will use a laser pointer to single out specific stars\, planets\, and constellations. The program focuses on astronomy\, and your guide will share stories\, folklore\, and mythology. \nThe next day\, your family-friendly Naturalist Guide will focus on connecting your young adventurers to the natural world on a two- to three-mile hike. After dinner on your own\, return to your campsite for storytelling around the campfire. This weekend will not only provide quality time together but will also leave you with a sense of awe\, wonder\, and connection with Yosemite National Park.
