SUMMARY:Yosemite Conservancy - Stewardship Series: Geology Hut: Reading Yosemite’s Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Spend your Friday afternoon exploring the science and stories shaping Yosemite today. The Yosemite Conservancy Stewardship Series offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts through short\, topic-focused programs inspired by donor-funded projects. Each two-hour session highlights a different area of research\, restoration\, or stewardship — from meadow recovery and sequoia ecology to wildlife conservation and beyond.  \nVisit the place where Yosemite Conservancy’s story began. In 1924\, the Geology Hut at Glacier Point became the very first completed project of the Yosemite Museum Association — the organization that would eventually become Yosemite Conservancy. In 2025\, Yosemite Conservancy donors funded a major restoration and redesign of the Geology Hut\, bringing this historic landmark into its second century as a hub for learning about glaciers\, granite\, and geologic time.   \nDuring this program\, a Yosemite Conservancy naturalist will share the story of the hut’s restoration while teaching you to read Yosemite’s geology from one of its most spectacular viewpoints. You’ll discover how ancient glaciers carved Half Dome and El Capitan\, how the Sierra Nevada formed over millions of years\, and what the rocks beneath your feet reveal about Earth’s dynamic history. This is more than a geology lesson — it’s a chance to connect with the past\, present\, and future of conservation in Yosemite.\n
