Mariposa County Trails Day

Mariposa County Trails Day
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Mariposa County is celebrating its Trails on June 4th at the Mariposa Arts Park, and everyone is invited!  All features of the new event are free and outdoors.
Over twenty groups- federal, county, and community- have come together to showcase their connection and support for our trails.  Trails are a big part of our community’s health, happiness, life style and appeal, and they are for all of us.  This celebration now is a great way to enjoy our renewed mobility and recreation. And we owe some thanks to our favorite trails in this pandemic!
Morning Program:
Starting at 9am: Booths for the Southern Sierra Miwuk, Public Health, Planning Department, USFS/BLM/NPS-Yosemite, Mariposa Trails, Arts Council, Sierra Foothill Conservancy, Audubon, a mountain bike club,  two equestrian groups, Master Gardeners, and others will offer information. Keep it Wild, will be holding a drawing for free Merced River rafting trips courtesy of our local rafting outfit: Zephyr Whitewater.
Our speaker program begins at 10am with thirteen participants covering the full range of related subjects from heritage to health, from original poetry to original music, from safety to maintenance, and from past efforts to today’s planning.  We are exploring the word “Trail” in its broadest meanings.  This event is also part of National Trails Day.  Our event will showcase the Stockton Creek Preserve trails and the expanding Mariposa Creek Parkway. Water is provided courtesy of the Health Department and, for food, snacks and a Hispanic food truck will be nearby.
Afternoon Activities:
After a break for lunch(12:30-1:30) we have eight afternoon activities for more hands-on appreciation of our trails: Birding, plein air painting, mountain biking, a docent guided walk in the Preserve, Planning Department scoping walks (2), native plants, mule packing(on Hwy 49 &10th), and a dry land hands on fly-fishing experience. People may sign up for these activities in the am at the appropriate booth or register on-line.
And for those who need more they can stay on at the Art Park for live music by The Trespassers that evening from 7-9p and/or stop by the  Grove House on Fifth Street where a celebration of Mariposa Pride is scheduled.
Mariposa County Trails Day is a brand new event, and we know it will be  entertaining and educational.  It is only possible with the sponsorship of The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, The Upper Merced River Watershed Council, The Rotary Club, our Tourism Bureau, Sierra Tel Internet, and the considerable efforts of our partner, Mariposa County Arts Council.  MCAC is producing a chapbook of poems written for this occasion by mostly younger and some slightly older folks with a passion for trails.  The staff for this event is your all volunteer Mariposa County Trails Day Steering Committee.
