Mariposa’s Butterfly Festival is a fun-filled family weekend held the first weekend in May each year. Thousands of butterflies that have be raised by local school children and the community are released throughout the event.
Friday’s Chalk Art Festival is viewed all weekend on the Mariposa Creek Walkway. School children release the Butterflies they have raised in their classrooms on Friday. A Butterfly Hat Contest is just part of the Friday night reception to welcome visitors as a “Taste of Mariposa” provides a sampling of local cuisine.
Saturday opens with the Art & Artisan show in the Mariposa County Art’s Park and the Butterfly Parade meanders through Historic Downtown. Special events are provided for children at the Caterpillar Kids area. Live butterflies are released. There is continuous free entertainment.
Sunday opens with a sunrise service followed by live entertainment. The Art and Artisans show, kid’s activities culminate with more butterfly releases.
