Native Wildflowers

Field of Poppies

In addition to its ancient giant sequoias, some of which are more than 2,000 years old, Yosemite is known for its vast array of spirit-lifting flowers.

In early spring you'll find the meadows and canyons filled with goldfields, baby blue eyes and poppies (pictured). In the fall, rabbit-brush and goldenrod dot the landscape.

All told there are 1,400 species of wildflowers in Yosemite. Depending on the season and climate, you'll find various species of lupine, yarrow, pussy paws, fireweed and penstemon. Rarer blooms such as monkshood and Sierra primrose can be found in the less beaten paths.
